Aron Gunnarsson swapped South Wales for Qatar in the summer, but how's he faring in the Middle East?

With almost 300 appearances for Cardiff between 2011 and 2019, Gunnarsson is a club legend. His contract in Wales expired in the summer and before the end of last season he had penned a move to Qatari club Al-Arabi,

Still captain of his national side, Gunnarsson made his debut for his new club back in August and scored his first goal for the club in his next game against Al-Duhail.

He played in their first seven games of the season and had helped them take 16 points from those games to land Al-Arabi as early contenders in the Qatari league, but the 30-year-old hasn't featured since mid-October.

Gunnarsson had to undergo ankle surgery back in October which has ruled him out of action until January at least - in the seven games he's missed so far, Al-Arabi have won just one and sit 5th in their domestic league.

'The Iceman' has experienced some bad luck with injuries, especially drawing towards the end of his stay in England - he made 28 appearances for Cardiff in his last season with the club, missing parts because of persistent ankle injuries.

Cardiff fans will be sad to see Gunnarsson having to have surgery but will be happy to know that he was playing well out in Qatar. His impact on the team in his short time there has been undeniable, and he's a player that the club will want back sooner rather than later.
