In recent days, there have been strong but unconfirmed rumours that Bristol City striker Benik Afobe has been ruled out for the season with a ruptured ACL injury

Afobe moved to Ashton Gate on loan from fellow EFL Championship side Stoke City just after the league campaign began, and has been a big part of City's early rise into the Playoff places. Having scored three goals in five appearances so far for Lee Johnson's side, things were looking particularly rosy for the striker on the pitch until disaster has apparently struck...

Having suffered a ruptured ACL back in 2013 while on loan at Millwall from Arsenal, it appears that Afobe has now suffered a recurrence of the injury and is set to miss the season after such a promising start to life in Bristol.

So, if the rumours are true regarding Afobe, step forward Antoine Semenyo and Saikou Janneh!

The good thing for Lee Johnson is that he won't need to rely on Semenyo or Janneh to come in and start for his side, instead preferring to call upon Afobe's like-for-like replacement Famara Diedhiou who is more than capable of scoring for his side, having netted both the goals against Afobe's parent club Stoke City in the previous game.

However, that now frees up a space on the bench for City and with Janneh on his way back from injury himself for City, after a reported summer loan move to Doncaster Rovers fell through, former Newport County loanee Semenyo could be the one to gain the vacant space in the matchday 18 for the time being.

Semenyo had an impressive loan period with Newport last season before City recalled him, scoring six goals in 32 appearances and including an eye-catching performance against Leicester City, and with his quickness along the ground as well as getting better daily, he could be a surprise option for Johnson to use from the bench.

The other youngster who'll be vying for that other spot in the matchday squad is going to be Janneh, who scored 18 goals in 34 appearances for Gary Johnson's Torquay United last season. Janneh is the rawest option out of the two, however at first glance is the better goalscorer out the two. Janneh is a willing runner in behind and can also link up the play as displayed for Torquay last season, and his proposed move to Doncaster this summer shows how highly rated the 19-year-old is at Ashton Gate.

With Afobe possibly out long-term, Johnson will definitely have to weigh up his options in the forward department.
