Birmingham City have been going about their business fairly quietly this season, as they pulled themselves amongst the promotion chasing pack in their opening 16 games.

The Bluenoses sit in 7th place in the Championship after picking up 25 points, and have lost just three times all season.

They pulled off some excellent points, beating the likes of Sheffield Wednesday and Norwich City.

The media often over hypes certain Championship sides throughout the season and the way that Birmingham has gone about their ways this term, they certainly should be credited more often.

However, this puts added pressure on sides and Birmingham City manager Gary Rowett will be happy being out of the national limelight.

The Blues have a talented side and some members of the squad are not given the plaudits that they deserve, compared to others.

Football League World Writer, Ashley Williams identifies the TWO most under-appreciated players at Birmingham City....

Jonathan Grounds

One of Birmingham’s best departments is their defence after only conceding 18 goals so far this term, and Grounds has been at the forefront of this back-line.

Grounds is in his third season at St Andrews and started every league match but one in the 2014–15 season, more than any other Birmingham outfielder and played 48 games last year.

An interesting stat from last season revealed that Grounds made more tackles per game than any other of Birmingham’s midfielder - Grounds average was 2.3.

His displays over the past two years certainly have been unnoticed.

Clayton Donaldson

The striker is undoubtedly under-appreciated.

Although, he may be not the most prolific forward in the Championship, he works his socks off, and brings his team mates into the game with his excellent hold up play.

Donaldson bags at least 10-15 goals a season, which is not bad at Championship level.

He already has four goals to his name this term and all the attention seems to be around on loan Burnley striker Lukas Jutkiewicz who has only scored one more than Donaldson.

Since his player of the year award for the 2014/15, his popularity seems to have died down.
