Nottingham Forest have enjoyed a solid start to the season, winning half of their opening six encounters.

Manager Mark Warburton will be relatively pleased with the progress made by his side, and several of the signings he has made this summer have slipped seamlessly into the side, massively improving upon the options he inherited towards the end of last season.

However, progress has been stunted in their last two outings, with consecutive defeats against Leeds and Sheffield Wednesday respectively.

Both sides are expected to challenge for promotion this season, and defeat to the clubs will leave many wondering whether Forest are good enough to compete with the best teams in the league.

Yes, two league defeats are nothing to go by, but could they provide an early indication?

A win over title favourites Middlesbrough will convince fans of the East Midlands side to discount such claims, but doubts will surely creep into the minds of more realistic minds.

Forest will be nowhere near the trouble they were in last year, but perhaps a push for promotion will be just out of reach this year.

The likes of Barrie McKay, Jason Cummings and Liam Bridcutt are proving to be wonderful additions to the squad, and Forest should finish in the top half this year.

With another summer under his belt next year and an even greater influence on his squad, Warburton could lead a promotion charge then, but for now, the relatively new gaffer will just be pleased to guide his side away from trouble, and to a respectable finish in the Championship table.
