Huddersfield have made an approach for Tottenham's Josh Onomah, according to Football Insider.

A possible loan deal is being discussed and if it goes through it would be the 22-year-old's third temporary move to the Championship in as many years, having previously featured for Aston Villa and Sheffield Wednesday.

Onomah is highly-rated and has impressed in previous spells, leading to interest this summer from The Owls as well as several Bundesliga clubs, including Borussia Monchengladbach and Frankfurt.

The Terriers could be in the driving seat however, and will be able to flex their financial muscle if necessary following the £15m sale of Philip Billing to Bournemouth, which was confirmed yesterday.

The departure of the Dane means Town will need to strengthen their midfield options, but with Aaron Mooy and Jonathan Hogg still at the club they will need a more attack-minded player, which is where Onomah comes in.

The Verdict

This would be a good move by Huddersfield even though Onomah is unlikely to be an upgrade on the current midfielders at the club.

Mooy, Hoog and Alex Pritchard are top quality players at this level and each has a lot more experience than Onomah, so he could struggle to break into the first-team and therefore it might not be the best move for him to make.

However, he has the quality to make an impression on Jan Siewart. His pace will offer Town something which they lack in midfield and it could prove useful in applying pressure on defences and in counter-attacks.

Onomah could be a great impact sub to bring on against tired legs and his creativity could prove key, as his three assists in 15 appearances for The Owls last season suggests.
