After a brief summer break, Marcelo Bielsa and his Leeds United squad get back to the hard work of pre-season when they assemble at Thorp Arch on Monday ahead of the new Championship season.

One Leeds player whose future remains uncertain though is winger Jay-Rot Grot who joined Leeds in 2017 but spent last season out on loan at VVV Venlo in the Netherlands, amid speculation that both Vitesse Arnhem and Hearts are keen to take the 21-year-old on-loan next season, as reported in the YEP.

But would Grot be better off staying in the EFL rather than moving to Hearts or Vitesse?

We discuss........

George Brooks

"Jay-Roy Grot is a promising player and Leeds obviously see him as a player with potential, otherwise they would have sold him this summer.

"He's a strong, powerful forward and has got the attributes to succeed as a striker in the Championship.

"He's not good enough to make an impact for Leeds next season though, so another loan move seems the best option for him at this stage of his career and it will allow him to gain more experience.

"He's already got a decent amount of experience in the Eredivisie, so I don't think he'd gain anything by moving to Vitesse.

"Hearts could be a decent option for him, but if he wants to make it at Leeds, he needs to experience regular football in England.

"I think moving to another EFL club on loan would be a great option for him, even if it means dropping down to League One."

Kealan Hughes

“The most important thing for Grot is regular game time, and he should go to a club which can promise him that.

“If he scores goals at his next club he will catch the attention of a big club once again. He’s already experienced Vitesse and if that suited him he should try and go back. The Eredivise is a lower standard so his chances of doing well there are greater.

“However, if he was to stay in the Championship or drop down to League One and score goals then he would be very highly sought after, which could allow him to have his pick of club in the EFL.”

Gary Hutchinson

“I don’t think he would be better off in the EFL, no.

“The problem is this; there isn’t a bigger club in the Championship than Leeds. Anything less than Elland Road is a step down.

“Other fans might not like it, but it’s the truth. Grot has flopped at Leeds and I think it’s time he moved on.

“I really like the idea of Vitesse for him. They’re competing at a decent level in the Netherlands, they finished fifth in the top flight last season. It’s a move ‘home’ as well, at least to his home country and that might help give him the boost he needs to revive his flagging career. Plus, he did relatively well at that level last season.”
