‘Anyone still think he should be dropped?’ – Plenty of Sunderland fans think this is their key man right now

Sunderland missed a great chance to make up ground on League One leaders Portsmouth as they let a 1-0 lead slip in the last few minutes against Scunthorpe this afternoon.

The Black Cats remain in third place, but they’re now three points adrift of the Hatters with a game in hand. With a weaker goal difference their fate is out of their hands, but Portsmouth’s wobbles have made the whole race much more interesting.

As the transfer window remains open, speculation over the future of striker Josh Maja intensifies, but it was his goal that lit up an otherwise tepid Sunderland display. He gave his side the cushion they failed to defend, but was brought off shortly afterwards.

Fans on Wearside can see exactly what the 20-year-old adds to the team and have been quick to point it out on Twitter this evening. He’s bagged 16 this season for Jack Ross’ side, but could walk away from the club for nothing in the summer.

Losing Maja is something that the fans below feel would be a mortal blow to their promotion hopes this season.
