Mansfield Town failed to make the League Two play-off final last night, going out against Newport County after a penalty shoot out.

The home side took a 1-1 draw back to Field Mill, but 120 minutes of football couldn't produce a goal. In an engrossing game, penalties seemed a harsh way to find a winner, but that's what it took.

Tyler Walker, immense all season for the Stags, missed the crucial penalty and that saw them consigned to League Two for yet another season.

Whilst it brought an outpouring of grief from their own fans, just thirty miles away another set of supporters were enjoying the moment even more. Lincoln City won the League Two title, but their supporters still took time out from celebrating to send messages to Stags' fans.

Few of them were consoling their heartbroken supporters as there's little love lost between the two clubs. The ill-feeling seems to stem from their clashes last season during which controversial manager Steve Evans made himself unpopular at Sincil Bank.

With little separating the teams in terms of geography, it appears Imps fans are quick to remind their rivals that there will be a division between them when they kick off next season.
