With new manager Dean Smith looking to turn his Aston Villa side into promotion contenders, he will have half an eye on the January transfer window with a view to signing some new recruits, but Smith needs to be aware of interested clubs coming in with offers for his own star assets.

Top of a lot of managers wish-lists has to be Villa midfielder John McGinn, who has been a revelation since his move to Villa Park from Hibernian in the summer.

But how much is McGinn worth in the current climate?

We discuss.....

Jay Taylor

Having signed for less than £5million - John McGinn’s arrival at Villa Park was a bargain, to say the least.

His performances and influence has been immeasurable for Villa and you can only imagine where they would be had Steve Bruce not signed him.

I would hazard a guess at his worth being around the £12million mark right now - no higher than £15million - but certainly in that ballpark.

Gary Hutchinson

Hard to say.

Anyone bidding would surely start at £10m.

Lots of value is relative though, is it not?

If a side specifically needs a midfielder they might pay more than one of the big clubs just hoovering up talent for fun.

George Harbey

Easily £10million+.

If Villa were looking to sign Barry Bannan for around £8million then surely McGinn is worth a little bit more than that.

He’s a younger version of him.
