With the news filtering through, via the club's website, that negotiations with Henrik Larsson to take over as Southend manager have now ceased, tensions are understandably high amongst the Roots Hall faithful, whose patience is beginning to wear thin with chairman Ron Martin.

The latest development leaves Southend with the unenviable task of finding a replacement for Kevin Bond, who now left the club over a month ago in September, meaning things look even more bleak for the lowly League One club at present.

With various names being linked with the role in recent weeks, it is perhaps unsurprising that Sol Campbell has been mentioned as potential candidate, with the former Macclesfield manager having performed wonders to keep the club in League Two last season, meaning he now commands a decent reputation throughout the Football League.

However, Southend Echo's chief sports reporter Chris Phillips has now provided an update on the situation involving Campbell and the club via Twitter, with the reporter seeming to suggest that there has not been much in terms of developments, leading to a wide array of reactions from the club's fanbase via social media.
