Michail Antonio has made a flying start to his Nottingham Forest career and assistant manager, Steve Wigley, believes he can keep improving.

Wigley believes Antonio is improving

The 24-year-old has scored eight goals in all competitions so far leaving him just two goals short of his best tally for a season, after just 13 games.

Antonio scored twice at Watford on Tuesday night to rescue a 2-2 draw against the then leaders of the division and Steve Wigley has hinted this is only the start.

"He will get better with age." Wigley said, speaking to the Nottingham Post. ""Whatever personal targets he might have had at the start of the season need to be adjusted now. We hope that he can contribute even more."

Antonio spent most of his early career on loan from Reading at clubs such as Tooting & Mitcham, Cheltenham Town, Colchester and Southampton, where he won the Johnstone's Paint Trophy in 2010. After signing for Sheffield Wednesday he became somewhat of a favorite and Wigley said he apologised to good friend Stuart Gray - Wednesday manager - for taking one of his biggest assets, "Stuart Gray is my best mate, so when we rang to let him know we were coming in for him, he was a bit disappointed.

"We knew what we were getting in him, we knew we were getting somebody who could score goals and create them. He could not have wished for a better start."

Antonio arrived at Forest for £1.5m in the summer window, as did striker Britt Assombalonga, who has also made a fantastic start scoring nine league goals, with one Forest hat-rick already under his belt in the 5-3 victory over Fulham. Steve Wigley thinks the two summer additions compliment eachother, "It helped that we signed him and Britt at the same time, because they already seem to be good buddies, they are close off the pitch," he said.

"That will help both of them. You always worry about how players will settle in to a new club, but both of them have settled in very well.

Both Antonio and Assombalonga will be looking to continue their fantastic start with goals and, more importantly, three points when they host Blackburn at the City Ground on Saturday.
