Fulham have been by far and away the best team in the Championship this season and will fancy their chances of consolidating in the top-flight next term.

Aleksandar Mitrovic bagged a brace, taking his total to 40 league goals, and Fabio Carvalho also found the net to pick up a 3-0 win over Preston North End on Tuesday evening.

The result sparked joyous scenes at Craven Cottage with their return to the Premier League sealed with four games to spare.

Flying left back Antonee Robinson has been a crucial player under Marco Silva this season, and the USA international took to Instagram to express his emotions about the achievement.

He wrote: "A night to enjoy the rewards for all of the hard work we’ve put in this season.

"Proud to be a part of this achievement and can’t wait to see what the future holds for us all… WE ARE GOING UP!!!"

At 24, Robinson is more than ready to be a first team regular in the Premier League, and if he can perform on a consistent basis next season, he should remain a top-flight player beyond the conclusion of 2022/23 with or without Fulham.

Silva will have to adjust his tactics next term which could see a new role for Robinson, but the early signs have been very positive that he can be a key player in a new era in the Premier League with the Cottagers.

The Verdict

A tally of 98 points, which is the maximum the Cottagers can achieve at this stage, would send a message of intent in their promotion, with their spot in the top two as safe as houses for months now, Fulham have dropped off a little and will be keen to finish strongly.

Fulham went down with a whimper in both 2018/19 and 2020/21, meaning that the bar has been set quite low for Marco Silva heading into next season.

The Cottagers stuck by Scott Parker for the entirety of 2020/21, despite the club looking destined for the drop all season-long with Ivan Cavaleiro preferred to Aleksandar Mitrovic as a number nine.
