According to the Chronicle Live, Watford have entered the race to sign Nottingham Forest’s Britt Assombalonga, and are prepared to pay £10m for the striker’s signature this summer.

There is firm interest in Assombalonga from Middlesbrough, with the Forest man Garry Monk’s number one striking target. However, Boro face competition from the Premier League to sign him.

Burnley have already seen an £8m bid rejected for Assombalonga, and Sean Dyche’s side are now considering including Tendayi Darikwa as part of a proposed deal.

However, Watford have now entered the race, with Marco Silva prepared to pay a straight £10m to secure the service of Assombalonga and take him back to Vicarage Road, where he spent time between 2011 and 2013.

Forest do not want to lose their influential striker, but Mark Warburton admitted the club could be forced to sell for the right price.

Assombalonga joined Forest ahead of the 2014/15 season for £5.5m, and has since scored 30 goals at the City Ground from just 65 Championship appearances, despite struggling with injury over the last three years.

The 24-year old’s most prolific season was his first at the City Ground, when he scored 15 league goals for Forest.

However, Assombalonga was influential again for Forest last season, scoring 14 league goals, including two on the final day of the campaign, as he helped guide Warburton’s side to Championship safety.
