Winger Viv Solomon-Otabor has left Birmingham City after failing to agree a new contract, as confirmed by the Blues.

Solomon-Otabor, 23, spent five years at St Andrew's making 33 appearances, whilst also enjoying loan-spells at Oxford City, Bolton Wanderers, Blackpool and Portsmouth.

So are the Blues right to let Solomon-Otabor leave?

We discuss........

Tommy Joyce

"With the departures of Jota and Adams, Birmingham could have done with holding onto Solomon-Otabor for another season.

"They are lacking wide forwards desperately, and now realistically need to find three to fill the gaps. They don't just have to buy first team replacements but also back ups as well.

"While he wasn't cut out for the Championship yet, he has had experience at that level and could have come in handy for Birmingham - especially considering they are yet to bolster their squad.

"He still had time to improve, and if the club did get reinforcements they could have allowed him to go on loan, either used him next season or pick up a healthier transfer fee."

Ned Holmes

"This is slightly surprising move on Solomon-Otabor’s behalf given that under new boss Pep Clotet you would imagine that he would have had a fresh chance to prove himself at Birmingham City.

"The 23-year-old’s career never seemed to get going with the Blues and despite signing a senior professional contract with the club he has started just twice for the Midlands club.

"He showed flashes of brilliance in a brief spell with Portsmouth last year but finding consistent production was an issue, as it seems to have been for much of his career given he has grabbed just eight goals and six assists in 101 senior appearances.

"The chance to move away should give him more opportunities for regular football.

"He only made 10 substitute appearances for the Blues last season but he may well be missed as they are short of wingers."

Louie Chandler

"As much as it would be easy to pin this down to the current goings on at St Andrew's, I don't think you actually can.

"Solomon-Otabor never seemed to be in with a chance of playing first-team football with Blues last season or heading into this one either in fact, and it seemed he had decided a while back that he would be leaving.

"Having spent the second-half of last season on loan with Portsmouth in League One, it did not look like a bad choice from Garry Monk to not play him and I think, for the time being at least, that League One is his level.

"It will be interesting to see who now comes in for him, however, and whether a Championship club would be willing to take a gamble on him or not."
