Sunderland are keen on Bristol City's Matty Taylor as Jack Ross desperately tries to bring in at least one striker before the 11pm deadline tomorrow.

The Black Cats lost top scorer Josh Maja to Bordeaux earlier in the window and wanted a new forward before his departure.

And, Chronicle Live have revealed that Taylor has emerged as a possible target if they can't land Wigan's Will Grigg.

Several offers for the Northern Ireland international have been rejected by the Latics and Sunderland are aware that they might not be able to land the player before the deadline.

Therefore, Taylor, who has been predominantly used as a sub this season, could come into their thinking.

The 27-year-old joined the Robins back in January 2017 in a very controversial move from bitter rivals Bristol Rovers.

However, he has struggled to make a positive impact at Ashton Gate, scoring just five league goals in 53 games, although most of them will have been from the bench.

Yet, prior to that he had scored 16 in 27 for the Gas in the third-tier, which Sunderland will clearly have been impressed with.

The Verdict

This would be a good signing for the Black Cats as Taylor should get you goals in League One.

Clearly, Ross wants a proven poacher and the Bristol City man fits the bill, whilst he would surely welcome the move given his lack of starts this season.

Sunderland have plenty of options heading into the final day of the window and they need to bring in at least one player to boost their promotion chances.
