Aston Villa were beaten 2-0 by Midlands rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux on Saturday evening.

The Villans were brushed away by Wolves' flair and attacking tenacity, and they simply could not cope with Nuno Santo's side.

Steve Bruce opted for a familiar starting eleven for the derby match, and utilised his favoured strike partnership of Keinan Davis and Jonathan Kodjia.

However, the latter could not get into the game, and seemed to be a spectator for the majority of the match.

The writers here at FLW have issued their opinions on the Ivorian frontman's performance.....

Anonymous on Saturday.

Villa were completely outplayed at Molineux and their star frontman barely registered a shot on goal. The fact Steve Bruce took him off with his side chasing the game said it all.

It's one penalty in six games since the Ivorian returned from injury. He justifiably has credit in the bank from last season, but Bruce and Villa need more from their big striker.

It was a very tough time for Villa.

Steve Bruce's men came into the game hoping that they could make a statement against Wolves but it was the home side that did all the talking.

Kodjia had a frustrating game, too, and was duly subbed with him only having half-chances to work with.

Back to the drawing board for Villa.

Although Aston Villa will be disappointed with their winning streak coming to an end against Wolves, it is hard to knock Steve Bruce’s side, who were up against the Championship’s best.

Kodjia struggled to make a major impact on the game, with Wolves’ flowing attack often pinning Villa back.

The Ivorian remains Villa’s biggest threat, but will need more service in big games like Saturday, if he is to score the goals to fire Villa into the top-six.
