Bristol City had a solid showing in their first campaign back in the Championship following promotion from League One in 2015.

Lee Johnson had since taken the reins from Steve Cotterill looking to take the club forward.

An 18th place finish was enough to secure their second-tier status amid reconstruction works at the ground to bring it to the modern era.

There was hope and expectation that the Robins were about to embark on something special with all the positivity swirling around the club.

And that was filtered to the playing side of the team when on July 14, 2016; it was announced that exciting young talent Callum O’Dowda would be joining the club.

The winger moved from Oxford United on a fee of around £1million on a three-year deal with the Championship side.

And it was safe to say the fans were excited with the capture of the highly-rated 21-year-old.

Since signing for the Robins, O’Dowda has been a class act, despite a slow start.

One assist in his maiden campaign at Ashton Gate was all he could muster in 39 Championship outings.

But he improved the following year, adding two goals and three assists to his game in a season that saw Bristol City finish 11th.

And this season, so far, O’Dowda’s team have broken into the play-offs and in with a fighting change with eight games to go in the league.

He has managed his best return since moving to Ashton Gate with five goals and four assists in 35 games in all competitions for the Robins.

Earning international recognition while at the club, too, O’Dowda has moved to the next level and has shown he can cut it in the second tier, becoming a fans’ favourite at Ashton Gate along the way.
