Birmingham City’s poor run of form cost big-spending Harry Redknapp his job just two games ago, and many questioned the decision to part ways with the former Tottenham manager, having backed him so strongly in the summer transfer market.

Yet Lee Carsley has come in as caretaker manager, and in just two games, has matched the former boss’ total points tally acquired in eight matches.

A hard-fought 1-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday was just-reward for an excellent performance from the home side, and some may be beginning to wonder whether Carsley deserves the job on a permanent basis.

A late goal from substitute Isaac Vassell secured the points for the Blues, lifting them out of the relegation zone ahead of a difficult trip to Hull City this weekend.

The display of the likes of Vassell will provide Carsley with plenty of selection headaches heading into the match-up on Humberside, but this can only be good news for the former Blues and Everton midfielder.

Fans took to Twitter after the game to have their say on the result, and it is safe to say that those from the West Midlands were absolutely delighted with the result…
