Leeds United CEO Angus Kinnear has revealed that many fans have contacted the Yorkshire club to argue why they should allowed to attend behind closed doors games should the 2019/20 campaign resume.

All EFL fixtures have been suspended for more than a month and at this point, it remains unclear if, how, and when the current campaign will be concluded.

At this point, it seems increasingly like that should the 2019/20 season resume it will be with behind closed doors fixtures.

You'd imagine Leeds will be more determined than most to get the season concluded, whatever that requires.

The Whites are top of the Championship and have a seven-point cushion over the play-offs with nine games to go.

In his column for the Yorkshire Evening Post, Kinnear addressed that subject and suggested that it seems "inevitable" that will be the case.

That will mean fans may not be at Elland Road when (or if) the Whites are promoted to the Premier League and the club CEO revealed many supporters had been in contact to argue why they should be allowed to attend fixtures.

He said: "Predictably, many supporters have already been in touch to establish their unique reasons to be allowed special access to a locked-down Elland Road. Whilst most correspondence focused on establishing individuals’ unsurpassed loyalty, the most ingenious group wrote to offer ‘Professional Ball Retrieval Services’.

"Their credentials included an ‘intimate knowledge of the nooks and crannies of Elland Road’ and ‘a team well-trained in Klichousery techniques to return the ball at speeds appropriate to ensuring the home side gain a ‘competitive advantage’."

The Verdict

You can help but commend the passion and in many ways the dedication of many of the Elland Road faithful, who have reached out to the club to argue their case for attending behind closed doors games.

If that is the way the season is concluded, which now looks like it would have to be, then it will undoubtedly be frustrated for Whites supporters – as they will likely be robbed of the chance of seeing their club promoted.

You'd imagine the majority of them would take that trade-off if it ensured they did make it up to the Premier League.
