Leeds United Cheif Executive Angus Kinnear says he does not expect Adam Forshaw to play a part for the club again this season, despite the delay to proceedings.

Forshaw has not made an appearance for Leeds since September due to a hip injury that forced him to undergo surgery in America, something that had been expected to keep him out for the remainder of the campaign.

With the season now suspended for the time being, there may have been some hope that that delay to the action may have given Forshaw the chance to recover in time to contribute to Leeds' push for promotion to the Premier League this season, although Kinnear now appears to have poured cold water on those hopes.

Writing about Forshaw in his column in the Yorkshire Evening Post, Kinnear revealed: “The resumption in play will probably come too soon for Adam Forshaw, but we are confident that this break means the root cause of his injury issues will have been resolved.”

As things stand, Leeds are currently top of the Championship standings, seven points clear of third-placed Fulham, with nine games of the season still to be played at some point.

Since his move from Middlesbrough back in January 2018, Forshaw has made 52 appearances in all competitions for the Whites, and has just over two years remaining on his contract with the club, securing his future at Elland Road until the end of the 2021/22 season.

The Verdict

This will be disappointing for Leeds.

If the season is to be finished, then it looks as though it will have to be done with a large number of games played in a short amount of time, meaning Leeds will want as many players as possible available to help them cope with that.

Forshaw's extended absence is something that will obviously not help them with that, not least because his performances in the early part of the campaign suggested he could have a big part to play for them were he to return for the season run-in.
