Leeds United CEO Angus Kinnear has hit back at a "deliberately erroneous" report that claimed Marcelo Bielsa was running full training was underway at Thorp Arch. 

Group training has been suspended until the 16th of May at the earliest with all EFL fixtures currently postponed for the foreseeable future, with players training at home.

Kinnears appear to be in response to a report that emerged last Friday, which claimed that eight Whites players trained at Thorp Arch around the same time last Friday and that the club flouted government rules as Bielsa's staff used the time to check up on the fitness of their players.

In a piece for the Yorkshire Evening Post, the Whites CEO denied those claims and hit back at the report, calling it "deliberately erroneous".

He said: "On the football side, a deliberately erroneous press report online last weekend suggested that Marcelo Bielsa was still running full training sessions at Thorp Arch.

"Nothing could be further from the truth.

"As you would expect, Marcelo and his team are meticulously following EFL and governmental protocol.

"The training ground is only being used for individual rehabilitation and for locally-based players to undergo solo outdoor exercise in a lower risk environment than residential streets."

Few sides will be more determined to get the 2019/20 campaign back underway than Leeds, who are top of the Championship and look well set to achieve promotion with nine games left to play.

The Verdict

It is hard to say with complete certainty but it seems as though Kinnear is hitting out at a report that emerged about Leeds' use of the training ground last Friday.

Bielsa is known for his extreme training sessions and demanding his players are in the best physical state they can be but you have to trust that he would respect the government guidelines.

Still, he will want to do ensure his squad does everything possible (and within the rules) to ensure they're ready to hit the ground running if and when the season does resume.
