Queens Park Rangers defender Angel Rangel has been discussing his side’s hope of reaching the Championship play-offs when the season resumes.

Mark Warburton’s side have really struggled for consistency in the Championship this season, taking three points off league leaders, Leeds United, but also losing out to the likes of Barnsley, who are facing relegation.

However, the R’s have found some consistency in recent weeks and have began to climb towards the play-offs on the back of a six-game unbeaten run.

Rangel has recently been discussing the R’s chances of breaking into the play-offs, remaining balanced with his view on the situation.

He told West London Sport: “We were realistic in a way that we know in the Championship, after a couple of wins, we see ourselves climbing up the table.

“That gives you the hope and belief that you can achieve it (the play-offs).

“But realistically we also know that consistency is everything and it has happened a couple of times this season where we put ourselves in a great position and then we haven’t won in three or four matches and that chance to stay at the top end of the table is gone.

“Hopefully like life, football will be back to normality soon and we can see how the end of the season pans out for us.”

QUIZ: The higher or lower QPR challenge – Can you get 15/15?

Warburton’s side have seen that potential play-off push halted, however, due to the outbreak of coronavirus across the globe.

Championship fixtures are on hold until April 30th at the earliest, with no concrete date set for the season to resume.

The Verdict

Rangel is an experienced head and will not be making outlandish comments at this stage, despite the R’s having a chance of breaking into the top-six.

He knows they need to build on this new-found consistency, but in an unpredictable division, it simply isn’t that easy.

Tough games await and Warburton’s side will have to be at their absolute best to get anywhere near the top-six.
