Andrea Radrizzani has responded in the best possible way to yesterday’s April Fool that suggested Marcelo Bielsa was set to walk out on Leeds United and re-join Newell’s Old Boys in Argentina.

Leeds head-coach, Bielsa, has a long-term affiliation with the Argentinian club, who he started both his playing and coaching career with.

Yesterday, on April Fools Day, Newell’s English account shared a message stating that Bielsa was returning to his first club in a Director of Football role for the 2019/20 campaign.

And, it brought out a response from Leeds’ Italian owner Radrizzani, who took to Twitter to point out it was an April Fool alongside a series of laughing emojis.

Bielsa arrived at Elland Road last summer on a two-year deal, with the club highlighting that they have the option to extend that into a third if they wish.

The 63-year-old has guided the Whites into promotion contention in the Championship as well, with Leeds in the driving seat for an automatic promotion spot with seven games of the season to go.

The Whites return to action next Saturday when they travel to St Andrew’s to take on Birmingham City.

The Verdict

Leeds fans surely all knew that this was an April Fool – surely?!

It will have no doubt caught a few out, but Radrizzani is the man in the know and he brushed it off straight away.

Maybe the owner’s tweet was an indication that Bielsa is committed to Leeds for another year, as per his contract, despite all the recent speculation.
