Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani has issued a tongue in cheek response to a fan who suggested the club will be competing in the Champions League in two years time.
The group stages top tier of European club football competition are set to begin on Tuesday night, with broadcaster Eleven Sports - which was founded and is chaired by Radrizzani - tweeting out a video in anticipation of the competition's return, featuring a number of fans wearing the shirts of several teams set to compete in this season's edition of the competition gathering together.
Responding to the post, one Leeds fan suggested to Radrizzani that they will need to include a Leeds shirt in such a video in two years time.
It is a tweet that evidently caught the eye of Radrizzani, who responded by asking the fan to give him slightly more time to complete that feat.
Leeds are currently top of the Championship after five wins from their opening seven league games of the campaign, having narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League last season.
The club have not featured in the Champions League since the 2000/01 season, when they made it all the way to the semi-finals of the competition before being knocked out by Spanish side Valencia.
The Verdict
Even though I imagine Radrizzani is only being half-serious here - given what they will have to accomplish in order to achieve that - this is still something that Leeds fans will surely love.
The fact that he is even talking about this does seem to highlight the ambition and desire Radrizzani has to succeed at Elland Road.
That is something that will should be a huge source of encouragement to those of a Leeds persuasion, since it reinforces the idea that everyone involved with the club is determined to see it succeed.
You also feel that the fact that the club's owner is directly interacting with fans online will only serve to endear him more to those supporters, considering the isolation that many owners often seem to pursue.
