Andrea Radrizzani has revealed that he has narrowed it down to three potential investors as he considers the sale of a stake in Leeds United Football Club.

Leeds have been under the stewardship of Radrizzani since the summer of 2017, when the Italian completed a takeover of the Championship club from Massimo Cellino.

Now, after starting a third year in the Championship, it seems that Radrizzani is considering plenty of potential investors as he plots to take Leeds to the next level.

“I have been approached by more than 20 parties and I have selected these three,” Radrizzani told the Times.

“The option of Qatar Sports Investment and Nasser — first of all they are friends, we have had a good relationship for a long time. Secondly, they have the possibility to bring this club to compete with Manchester City, so for the fans that could be a fantastic opportunity.

“The second is based in America, he’s a big fan of Leeds United since he was a child, and I like that.

“Another one is the owner of an Italian club. With another club you can create synergy to be more competitive and to target the Premier League — we could maybe get a loan to increase the quality of the team.”

The aim is to take Leeds back to the Premier League – whatever stake he has – and with the club going so close last season under Marcelo Bielsa, there’s a lot more expectation falling on everyone at Elland Road in 2019/20.

“The most important thing for me is to make this club big again,” he continues, talking about the club currently sitting fifth in the Championship standings as October’s international break ticks away.

In terms of on-field matters, Leeds are going well; as mentioned, they are fifth in the Championship at this stage.

After 11 fixtures, they’ve won six, drawn two and lost three, with two of those three defeats coming in the last three games - away to Charlton, and on the road to Millwall.

When the Championship resumes on Saturday, Leeds take on Birmingham City at Elland Road, celebrating their 100th year anniversary.

The Verdict

This is big news for Leeds United and a real sign of Andrea Radrizzani’s intent for the football club.

We know Radrizzani has the passion to get Leeds to the Premier League, but it has been questioned whether he has the financial backing to really take them where he wants them to be.

Looking at investors is probably his way of admitting he needs that little bit of help to reach Leeds’ goals, which is no bad thing.

These are exciting times.
