West Brom are keeping a watchful eye on Watford striker Andre Gray, as reported by Football Insider.

The 30-year-old has seen his first-team opportunities with The Hornets diminish over the last year, with Gray making just 14 starts last season.

The Jamaica international scored five goals for the Hertfordshire club last time out, taking his total up to 46 Championship goals in 118 games.

The Baggies are expected to face divisional competition in the lightning-quick forward, with Middlesbrough also in pursuit, as per a report from The Athletic.

Blackburn Rovers are another side who are reportedly interested in the front-man, according to The Sun on Sunday (18.07.21, pg. 61).

Is it a good potential move?

Despite not enjoying the best of seasons last time out, Gray has proved to be a prolific Championship striker over the years and given a consistent run of games, it would be no surprise to see him thrive at this level once more.

Gray is very unlikely to see enough game time at Watford to justify staying, meaning a move to the top end of the second-tier is probably the best situation for the forward.

West Brom's attacking line-up looks up their with the best at the division at the moment, and he does not add anything new.

There are other second-tier clubs out there - who are also likely to be competing at the right end of the division - who would benefit more from Gray's arrival.

Would he start?

Callum Robinson and Karlan Grant are both excellent striking options, who have the ability and attacking intelligence to play on the shoulder of the last defender, like Gray.

Matty Phillips has also shown that he can operate centrally for The Baggies, bringing pace and power to that role, and subsequently, it is difficult to pinpoint where the 30-year-old would fit in.

West Brom could benefit from adding an additional striker to their ranks, but a target man would give Valerien Ismael more variety in his attacking options.

If Gray did arrive at The Hawthorns, he would probably spend more time on the bench than the pitch.

What does he offer?

It is no secret that Gray has frightening pace. Pace that would still terrify defences in the Premier League.

He also has the intelligent movement to match, making him such a difficult opponent to stop when he eventually goes in behind.

Gray is a powerful striker of the ball, and he has found great success in finding the back of the net by taking shots early.

He also has bags of energy, and under Ismael, he would become a relentless worker, whose speed would certainly help with stopping defences enjoying possession.
