Andraz Sporar sends clear social media message to Middlesbrough fans following Deadline Day move

Middlesbrough forward Andraz Sporar has taken to his personal Instagram account to insist that he cannot wait to get started at Boro now following his confirmed Deadline Day switch to the Riverside Stadium.

Neil Warnock had been hoping to add to his attacking options over the last few weeks of the transfer window. Sporar emerged as a key target for Boro as they aimed to try and provide some competition for Uche Ikpeazu upfront.

On the final day of the transfer window, Middlesbrough were finally able to confirm the arrival of Sporar on a loan deal for Sporting CP.

The experienced striker arrives with plenty of pedigree having managed to make over 300 career appearances.

He also fired home 29 league goals in the 2018/19 season with Slovan Bratislava prior to his move to Portugal.

12 of these 25 Middlesbrough facts are fake – Can you identify them?

The forward has not been as prolific in the Portuguese top-flight but Boro will now hope to unlock his best form in front of goal in the Championship.

Following the confirmation of his arrival at Middlesbrough on Deadline Day, Sporar took to his personal Instagram account to issue a message to supporters. He also insisted that he can not wait to get going with Boro after the international break.

The verdict

Middlesbrough desperately needed to add at least one more striker to their squad before the transfer window closed.

Sporar’s signing, therefore, ticked a lot of boxes for them and it could be exciting to see how well the Slovenia international can adapt to life in the English second tier.

The 27-year-old has already shown in his career that when he gets on a confident run of form he can be a prolific scorer in the final third.

Warnock will need to find a way of getting that confidence in him and try to do all he can to settle him into the club as quickly as possible.

Sporar arrives with perhaps a point to prove following his move to Sporting CP not working out exactly how he would have been hoping for.

However, there is a reason why the Portuguese giants decided to take a chance on him following his excellent form for Slovan Bratislava.

A strong campaign in the Championship would go a long way to restoring the forward’s reputation in European football.

If he can fire in the goals that take Boro to a top-six finish then it will have turned out to be an excellent move for all concerned.
