West Ham United are plotting a new summer move for Brentford star Ollie Watkins after failing to land their man in January, it has been reported by The Sun, with the report claiming that the Hammers wanted Watkins in January, but Brentford refused to sell, meaning David Moyes had to shelve his interest until the end of the season.

Watkins, 24, has scored 22 goals with three assists in 36 Championship matches this season, and it's likely that he'll be playing Premier League football next season whether or not the Bees win promotion, with Watkins representing a versatile attacking option for the Hammers.

So would Watkins be a good addition for the Hammers and is he good enough for the Premier League?

We discuss.........

Toby Wilding

"I think this would be a very good signing for West Ham.

"Goals have certainly been a problem for the Hammers this season, not least with the returns they are getting from their strikers, so you can understand why they might want to add to their ranks in that position in the summer.

"Having been prolific since moving into a centre forward role this season, Watkins does seem a good option to fill that position for West Ham, with the adaptability he has shown since moving into that role suggesting he could cope with the step up to the Premier League.

"Indeed, with the Hammers only recently spending big on Jarrod Bowen, it seems they are willing to turn to the Championship for their big signings, and with Bowen netting on his first start for the club during that crucial win over Southampton on Saturday, you feel the club's confidence in that approach will have only increased now."

Ben Lang

"Watkins has enjoyed his most prolific campaign for Brentford to date during their promotion bid, and his impressive rate of development since joining the Bees suggests he will be ready to play in the Premier League next season.

"West Ham will need to strengthen their attacking unit if they secure their top-flight status this term, and Watkins would be the ideal mould of player for the Londoners given he is still young and would be hungry to succeed in the top tier.

"It should be noted the Hammers' chances of landing the front-man would probably hinge on whether Brentford seal promotion come the end of the season, as this scenario would improve the Bees' chances of keeping Watkins.

"However, West Ham are still making the right move by expressing their interest in Watkins at this early stage ahead of the summer transfer window, particularly seeing as the Hammers' proposal may well appeal to Watkins given he would have a better chance of regular game time than at a top-half club."

George Harbey

"I think Watkins would be an incredible signing for West Ham, and they should count themselves really lucky if they manage to secure his services in the summer.

"Let's face it, West Ham are a bottom-half Premier League outfit who are fighting to stay in the top-flight, and haven't shown signs of being able to compete in the top-half for a while now.

"The likes of Simone Zaza and Sebastian Haller have flattered to deceive upon their moves to the London Stadium, so eyeing up a young, English talent like Watkins could prove to be a shrewd transfer strategy.

"Watkins is an excellent talent who has been prolific in the Championship for a number of seasons now, and his ability to play anywhere across the front-line would be a key asset for the Hammers.

"He is a natural finisher who would be a terrific capture for the Hammers."
