Reading are believed to be wanting to appoint former Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce to take over from struggling gaffer Paul Clement.

According to reports in today's printed edition of the Sun on Sunday, the Royals want to bring in the experienced Bruce to aid their fight against relegation, meaning Clement will once again be out of work after another failed forray into management.

Bruce, who has plenty of experience in the Championship following spells with Birmingham, Hull and Sunderland to name but a few, would appear to be a good appointment at first glance for the Royals, but there are of course ups and downs to any managerial appointment.

Would Bruce be the ideal man? Or are Reading barking up the wrong tree trying to hire Bruce? Here's what our team of writers at FLW think...

I wondered how long before we got Bruce linked with another role. He'll be keen to get into a new job, but Reading? I'm not so sure.
They're not looking good and a relegation battle is the last thing he needs on his CV. I think football has moved on from Bruce. They may as well get McCarthy and be done with it.

Bruce would be an ideal appointment for Reading.
Reading need an experienced head in charge at the club and Bruce would certainly fire up an underperforming squad.
He has already shown he can keep teams in the Championship whilst at Hull. He will have a tough job on his hands with Reading’s squad showing a real lack of passion and effort in the last two seasons.

Anyone but Clement for me would be an improvement, I simply do not buy that he is a good manager.
Bruce on the whole would be a solid appointment for the Royals, and he would surely have enough in the tank to at least ensure they avoid relegation.
