Blackburn Rovers will play League One football next season after a disastrous campaign saw the former Premier League champions relegated to the third tier for the first time since 1980.

Rovers spent just a single season in that division before bouncing back, and those associated with the Ewood Park club will be hoping history repeats itself next year.

Securing manager Tony Mowbray for another season was a relief to the club, with many believing the experienced boss to be the right man to drag Blackburn into the top.

The former West Brom boss has already made strides in the summer transfer window, bringing the impressive Bradley Dack in from Gillingham, as well as Richie Smallwood from Rotherham.

Coupled with the acquisition of Cardiff stalwart Peter Whittingham and QPR’s Ben Gladwin, Mowbray has made an excellent start to the summer.

Fans were disappointed to see the back of club captain Jason Lowe, but Mowbray has moved magnificently to replace the departing skipper, and some may even argue that Blackburn have upgraded on the player with their summer signings.

Mowbray is putting together a squad that he feels can compete in the Championship, and this is excellent preparation by a manager who is confident his side will achieve promotion this season.

Blackburn will undoubtedly be there or thereabouts by the time May rolls around, and bouncing back to the Championship certainly looks to be on the cards.

Rovers are fast assembling the strongest squad in the division, and it appears the good times are set to return to Ewood Park next season, and Blackburn could be celebrating a title once again.
