Luton Town are amongst the Championship clubs chasing a deal for Devante Cole.

Sky Sports (Transfer Centre, 09/01/2020, 08:45am), Luton are interested in the Wigan Athletic striker, who is currently on loan with Motherwell in Scotland.

The 24-year-old has four goals in 19 appearances in the Scottish Premiership, with Wigan open to his exit.

So, would he be a good signing for Luton?

We discuss…

Kris Smith

“I’m not convinced that Cole would be a strong signing at Championship level given that he has never played at this level in his career.

“So far, having played for a host of clubs in the EFL, he has only played in League One and in the cups, but without really finding any really prolific form anywhere.

“Luton are bottom of the table, and whilst they aren't the lowest scorers in the Championship, more goals would certainly give them a better chance of survival.

"Is Cole the right man? I'm not sure."

Phil Spencer

“A move for Devante Cole could be a smart move for the Hatters.

“The former Man City man is way down the pecking order at Wigan, leading him to spend the first half of the season on loan with Motherwell.

“While that spell has gone pretty well, I’m sure the Latics would be happy to move him on for the right fee.

“Luton are struggling so far this term but by signing a player of the quality of Cole they may just stand a chance of retaining their spot in the Championship.

“If not, they’ll be very well prepared for League One next term.”

Ben Crump

“It is not wonder that a number of Championship clubs are showing an increasing interest in Cole, who is the son of former Manchester United striker Andy.

“The youngster is full of talent, hence why he spent 11 years as a youth at Manchester City, where he was highly regarded. Whilst the 24-year-old has already had seven different clubs, you have to believe that once he is settled then he will start to show his quality and Luton could be the perfect place for that to happen.

“For a club of Luton's current league standing, Cole would be an excellent signing and whilst many will look at his goalscoring past in a negative way - a relegation battle could act as the perfect chance for the striker to kick-start his career.

“His potential arrival at the club would instantly see him become a starter having seen Luton struggle to score on a regular basis this season.”
