Hull City's move for Josh Vela could be scuppered by the departure of manager Nigel Adkins, The Hull Daily Mail have reported.

According to reports, Adkins had been keen on bringing Vela to the KCOM Stadium, before deciding that he would not be signing a new deal with The Tigers when his current contract with the club expires at the end of the month.

As a result of Adkins departure, the move for Vela and any other recruitment work has been put on hold in order to focus on the search for Adkins successor.

Vela, 25, is a free agent after announcing that he will be leaving Bolton at the end of the season after the expiry of his contract with the club, having made 182 appearances and scored 13 goals in all competitions for the newly relegated League One side.

So, would Vela be a good signing for Hull if they are still able to secure his signature?

We asked some of our Football League World writers for their opinions.

Toby Wilding

"I think this would be a good signing for Hull.

"With plenty of interest already emerging around the likes of Jarrod Bowen, Kamil Grosicki and Markus Henriksen, Hull may well find themselves needing to strengthen in the attacking midfield areas over the summer transfer window.

"Vela's experience at this level in that position could make him a decent option for The Tigers, particularly given he has shown that he has the potential to make things happen, while the fact that he is available on a free means this is a transfer Hull could get done quickly should they need to do so."

Kealan Hughes

"This would be a great signing by Hull, and a real bargain considering he is available on a free.

"He has proved he can cut it in the Championship and he would provide some much needed pace and goals to Hull after the departure of goalscoring midfielder Evandro.

"So far, Vela has been unable to deliver on his potential due to the goings on at Bolton, which has seen them relegated twice in four years. Vela scored nine goals as the Wanderers were promoted from League One, and if he could find that form again he will be very effective for Hull."

Alfie Burns

"In a settled environment, Vela would be an excellent addition for most teams in the Championship.

"He's really highly-rated in my eyes and for a club like Hull, he'd be an excellent addition.

"However, he was clearly a target for the previous manager, and Hull's focus needs to be on pleasing the demands of whoever replaces Adkins.

"That management situation is an issue that needs to be resolved first."
