Derby County are interested in signing attacker Ivan Cavaleiro from Premier League side Wolves, website wolvesbite.com have reported.

Having made it all the way to the Championship play-off final under Frank Lampard last season, new Derby boss Phillip Cocu will no doubt be looking to build on that success as he prepares for his first competitive game in charge of the Rams in less than a month's time.

It now seems that it is possible that Cavaleiro could be part of that squad for Derby's trip to recently relegated Huddersfield Town on the opening Monday of the season.

The prospect of a move to Derby for Cavaleiro is an intriguing one, and we've taken an in depth look at it here in our latest six point opinion piece.

Firstly, what's Cavaleiro's situation at Wolves?

"It looks as though he could be on his way out of Molineux.

"The forward has started just twice in the Premier League since the turn of the year having seemingly fallen down the pecking order, and according to reports, has been made available for loan or transfer by Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo.

"He does however have two years remaining on his contract with Wolves, so it may not be cheap for any club that looks to make a move for the 25-year-old."

Would he be a good signing for Derby?

"This could be an excellent addition for the Rams.

"While he may have fallen out of favour at Wolves this year, Cavaleiro played a huge part in Wolves' charge to the Championship title the season before, scoring nine goals and providing 12 assists in 42 Championship appearances that season.

"Such experience could be vital as the Rams look to improve on narrowly missing out on promotion last year, and his previous experience with the likes of Benfica, Monaco and Deportivo means that he has plenty of top flight pedigree."

Would he get in their starting XI?

"You would be surprised if he wasn't a regular starter should he move to Derby.

"Having lost the likes of Harry Wilson and Mason Mount following the expiration of their loans last season, Derby will be looking for new faces to turn to make things happen, and Cavaleiro's record at this level indicates he is someone who can be relied upon to do that.

"You also feel that Cavaleiro will want a guarantee of regular football if he is to make the step down from the Premier League to the Championship."

So would he want to move to Derby?

"It's definitely possible.

"It seems as though Cavaleiro has come to terms with the fact that his chances at Wolves are waning, so he may be keen to move on in order to search for more regular first team football.

"That Derby are also expected to compete for promotion next season should help their cause here, as Cavaleiro could be keen on a return to the top flight sooner rather than later, not least to prove a point to his former club."

How should Derby fans be feeling about this potential move then?

"Excited.

"Following the disappointment of losing Lampard, the appointment of another big name such as Cocu will have already lifted the spirits around Pride Park heading into the new season.

"Now the links with a proven promotion winner such as Cavaleiro would suggest that they are serious about another assault on the Premier League next season on the pitch as well."

Finally, are Derby the only side to have been linked with Cavaleiro?

"Perhaps worryingly for the Rams, they are not.

"A previous report from wolvesbite.com claimed that recently relegated duo Fulham and Huddersfield are both also interested in a move for the attacker, and that could be a concern for Derby.

"Both clubs will still be enjoying the extra boost of parachute payments following their relegation from the Premier League, so it is possible that both will be offer more than the Rams to Wolves for the services of Cavaleiro.

"Furthermore, Fulham's status as one of the pre-season favourites for promotion back to the Premier League could make them the more attractive option to the player himself."
