West Bromwich Albion loanee Dwight Gayle has been charged by the FA for successful deception of a match day official.

The striker will now face a two-game ban having deemed to have dived to win a late penalty against Nottingham Forest.

Jay Rodriguez slotted home the spot-kick to snatch a late point against Martin O’Neill’s side in mid-week.

Gayle had until 6pm on Thursday to respond to the charge and will now miss the club’s next two games against Aston Villa and Queens Park Rangers.

Darren Moore’s side are fourth in the table and are six points off the top two at present, and with the striker out for the next two matches, it could well knockback their hopes of closing the gap.

With the Championship so tight and games from here on out as important as ever, will Gayle’s misdemeanour be a blow to West Brom, albeit just for the games against Villa and QPR?

We asked our team of FLW writers their thoughts on the matter.

Here’s what they had to say…

Gary Hutchinson

“Yes, it’s a blow.

“He’s not going to be winning them any dodgy penalties for the next two games for a start.

“I feel a bit let down by it all; Forest were robbed of three points.

“The ban doesn’t help them, does it?”

Jay Taylor

“Of course, it’s a blow – but it serves him right.

“His mindless decision may have won West Brom a point – but how many could it cost him over the next two games?

“Stupid from Gayle and it will negatively impact the team.

“If West Brom miss out on the top two by a few points, these next two games could be where the blame is laid.”

Louie Chandler

“It's an enormous blow.

“Gayle is comfortably West Brom's best player, and he could seriously damage their promotion chances with this dive.

“Others will seriously need to step up in the two games without him.”
