Queens Park Rangers have learned who they will be facing on the opening day of the Sky Bet Championship next season with Millwall set to visit west London at the beginning of August.

Rangers will be looking to maintain momentum from last season this coming campaign, with them finishing the second half of the year in the sort of form that you would associate with top play-off contenders.

Indeed, that has to be the aim next year for the R's and they've started making the signings you would expect them to make to really bolster their squad for 21/22.

That in mind, what could their XI look like on the opening day against the Lions?

With a few new signings in place and some links doing the rounds for further transfer-wise, too, we've had a stab and Mark Warburton's opening line-up for next year in the Sky Bet Championship...

Seny Dieng has been a superb goalkeeper this season for Queens Park Rangers and keeping him for next year will be crucial if they want to achieve a top-six finish in the Championship.

The R's have had problems in goal in recent years but Dieng has been a solid presence and is arguably one of the best at second-tier level, so keeping him about is obviously a good idea.

Joe Lumley has left the club after some decent cameos at the end of last season and so it is hugely unlikely QPR will sanction an exit for Dieng unless absolutely ludicrous money came in for him.

Yoann Barbet had a solid enough season last time out and certainly looks more at home in a back-three than he does in a centre-half partnership.

His current role works well for him with that left foot of his and whilst we've seen him marshall that side of the pitch well with Lee Wallace, we've also seen him being able to provide decent crosses and the odd goal from that area too.

He's a vocal presence and will feature plenty next season too, as QPR look to keep their impressive defensive record up from the second half of the campaign.

De Wijs has had a decent loan spell at QPR last year and he is one of several players that have made their move permanent this summer transfer window.

QPR had an option to make it a permanent deal in their initial agreement with Hull City and they have activated that clause, with the Tigers back in the Championship themselves after promotion.

He's a physical, brave presence in the middle of the defence and though he has had a few fitness problems during his time with the Hoops. he is a player certainly worth keeping around in the middle of the backline.

Dickie had a fine season in defence for Queens Park Rangers as he continues his impressive progression up the EFL.

There is a good chance he will be linked with a move away this summer but there is also a considerable chance that he will remain at QPR for another season as the club looks to put together a promotion challenge.

He's a player that immediately looked at home at Championship level and another top campaign for QPR next year could pave the way for a move to the Premier League one way or another.

Wallace had a good season for Queens Park Rangers last year, particularly in the last few months.

It was no surprise that the switch to 3-5-2 saw QPR climb the league table in 2020/21, as it also seemed to unlock a new level of performance from several Rangers players.

Wallace has been brilliant since the move to a wing-back with his lung-busting efforts up and down the left-hand side catching the eye whilst he has also shown good delivery with a number of assists this season in the Championship.

Indeed, there's no reason for him to come out of the side right now.

Andre Dozzell has arrived from Ipswich Town and you can see him getting lots of game time next season as Mark Warburton looks to aid him on his next step of progression.

He's a young player with plenty still to learn but you can tell he's a very handy footballer with a really impressive range of passing.

That will work well under Mark Warburton with his possession-based style and there's every chance Dozzell will make his debut for the Hoops against Millwall on the opening day of the season.

Field is a player that Mark Warburton likes with the QPR manager going on the record during the player's loan spell to say that he would like to keep the midfielder for next season.

Of course, that move has now come to pass and so it seems pretty safe to assume that Field is going to be involved a fair bit next year in the middle of the park.

It remains to be seen if Stefan Johansen is also going to arrive and Rangers fans would certainly be pleased if he did but, even so, their midfield options are looking pretty strong now, especially with the likes of Luke Amos and Charlie Owens returning from injury.

Moses Odubajo is currently training with Rangers and he could well earn a move there this summer having left Sheffield Wednesday.

He's worked with Mark Warburton in the past and with the future of Todd Kane seemingly lying away from QPR, it would make sense to get in another player that can come in as a right-wing-back.

Osman Kakay will need someone to push him and challenge him for a spot and Odubajo could well provide a really stern test.

Chair had a really productive season last time out and could well be the star of the show next year if he keeps on progressing and performing.

The diminutive attacking midfielder is still a little raw in places but he certainly has lots of potential and last year was his best campaign to date.

It's probably a bit early for someone to come in for him this summer but he could have a top campaign next season and if QPR do not go up there's every chance he's the next one to move to the Premier League like Ebere Eze did.

Charlie Austin is back for another year and this time he is on a permanent deal, much to the delight of Rangers fans.

The second half of the season saw him and Lyndon Dykes link up tremendously well and fans will be looking forward to seeing that continue to blossom over the course of a full Championship season.

If they can maintain their form for the whole campaign there is no reason to suggest why they cannot challenge for the play-offs at the very least this coming season, and the excitement around that in west London is palpable.

Dykes showed towards the end of last season that he could well be the striker Rangers needed after all when he first signed.

Yes, the first half of the season was below what he would have wanted, of course, but the second half of the campaign saw him hit a real purple patch and the confidence that will give him to now know he can cut it at this level could be huge.

QPR fans will be pleased Charlie Austin is staying too as he clearly helped Dykes along and that bodes well for next season.

Certainly, Dykes could prove a real handful next year in the Championship.
