Middlesbrough have made an enquiry for Blackburn Rovers forward Sam Gallagher.

As per our FLW exclusive yesterday, Boro have enquired regarding the 25-year-old, with Chris Wilder looking to bring in three new front-men prior to the summer window coming to a close.

Gallagher scored nine goals for Rovers in 37 Championship outings last term, whilst also laying on three assists.

With the above in mind, here, some of our writers here at FLW have offered their verdict on the links, and whether or not they think the Blackburn man is a signing Boro need this summer.

This is an area that Boro are desperate for signings in.

As such, I do think Sam Gallagher would be a good addition at the Riverside Stadium.

Coming into the prime of his career, you do feel he is a player that can hit double figures for Boro next term, potentially helping them get across the line in their play-off push.

But, perhaps he is not a forward that can go and get 20 goals, for example.

As such, whilst Gallagher would be a good addition, Chris Wilder should not stop there, and should still seek further reinforcements.

It may take a decent fee to get him out of Blackburn, too, given he has two years remaining on his contract, with the club holding an option for a third.

Middlesbrough are in need of reinforcing their attack, with Josh Coburn and Duncan Watmore not making for very exciting options at present.

Gallagher wouldn’t be a massive upgrade either which would make this a bit of a sideways step.

Boro need proven goal scorers to go to the next level and the Blackburn man’s best campaign saw him bag only nine goals.

He would be a very good squad option, and could work well as the secondary striker in a front two, but this isn’t a deal that Wilder should be prioritising for the team.

When you consider that Boro will need to bolster their attacking options this summer in order to bolster their chances of challenging for promotion, it may turn out to be a wise move to swoop for Gallagher.

The Blackburn forward knows exactly what it takes to compete in the Championship as he has made 207 appearances at this level during his career.

Directly involved in 12 goals for Rovers last season, the forward could potentially benefit from playing alongside the likes of Isaiah Jones and Ryan Giles who are capable of providing an abundance of creativity.

By maintaining his consistency as well as his fitness over the course of the upcoming campaign, Gallagher could play a major role for Boro as they aim to achieve a great deal of success in the Championship.
