Burton Albion are building for another season in the Championship, and the underdogs will look to punch above their weight again next season under Nigel Clough.

The Brewers chief has already made moves to improve his side, bringing Stephen Warnock and Jake Buxton in to improve his defence, as well as smashing the club’s transfer record to bring SPL top scorer Liam Boyce to the Pirelli Stadium.

Clough will want further additions in the coming weeks however, and should strongly consider an ambitious swoop for Manchester United starlet Scott McTominay.

The 20-year-old made his first team bow in a substitute appearance at the Emirates in May, before starting United’s final day win over Crystal Palace in the middle of the park.

The giant 6 ft 4 in midfielder began his youth career as a centre forward, but was converted to a midfielder by then United academy boss Warren Joyce, and has been on the books at Old Trafford since he was 5.

First team opportunities may be limited next season, and with the 20-year0old in need of first team action, a loan year in east Staffordshire would do the youngster the world of good.

Clough is a young boss keen on nurturing young talent, and will know bringing McTominay to the club would be a huge coup.

The player could really establish himself and gain a timely confidence boost ahead of his push for consistent first team action at United, and a year in the Championship could see the beginning of an exciting career.
