West Bromwich Albion are the latest club to join the race for Oldham Athletic defender George Edmundson.

Reports from the Birmingham Mail claim that the Baggies are one of many teams vying for the 21-year-old's signature, after a hugely impressive campaign for the League Two side.

The centre-half has made 54 appearances for the Latics in all competitions this season, and was named in the division's Team of the Season after a string of solid displays.

With just one year left on his deal at Boundary Park, it is believed that Edmundson could cost around £500,000 in the summer, with plenty of high-profile clubs such as Rangers, Stoke and Sunderland tracking the player.

Here, we discuss whether he would be a good signing for West Brom...

George Harbey

"Edmundson is an exceptional talent, who would be a very good long-term option for the Baggies.

"£500,000 would be an absolute bargain for a player of his quality and his potential, and it speaks volumes that he was named in the Team of the Season after Oldham spent the majority of the campaign sitting in mid-table.

"They simply need to get this deal done."

Gary Hutchinson

"I’m not so sure this is a good move for him.

"He needs regular football and I can’t see it at West Brom.

"I love to see League Two players step up, but it needs to be for their development too, not just as a way of big clubs collecting talent.

"He’d be best served in League One in my opinion."

Toby Wilding

"West Brom do need to bring in defenders, but this could be something of a risk.

"There is still a chance that West Brom could be promoted this season, and going from League Two to the Premier League is a massive step for any player.

"Even if they aren't promoted, The Baggies will be one of the favourites for the top flight again next season, and that could be a lot of pressure to put on the 21-year-old given the defensive challenges West Brom have faced this season."
