Blackburn Rovers midfielder John Buckley is a name that most fans will be unfamiliar with - but they could be set to learn a lot about him.

The 19-year old, who has been on the books at Ewood Park since the age of six-years old, has caught eye in the under-23's this season, despite a turbulent time with injuries.

The midfielder is on the fringes of Tony Mowbray's first-team, with the club set to reward his progress with a new deal, despite their being over 12 months left on his current contract with the Lancashire outfit.

But their could be a somewhat major difficulty in the club's attempt to try and tie Buckley down to a new deal, with recent reports claiming that Premier League giants Manchester United, Liverpool and Everton are all interested in signing the talented midfielder.

Of course, Buckley will feel that he still has a lot to prove at Ewood Park after failing to show what he's really about after frustrating spells on the sidelines, and he has worked so hard to become a real contender for a first-team spot under Mowbray.

But interest from the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool doesn't come around too often, and with both clubs having reputations for several decades for developing exciting young talent, this is likely to be a tantalising prospect for Buckley.

The 19-year old will have to consider options carefully, as at this stage in his career, he will need regular game-time to keep on developing and bettering him as a player.

But with the lights of Old Trafford and Anfield becoming even brighter, his head may well be turned as we approach the latter stages of the 2018-19 campaign...
