James Norwood has become something of a sensation in League two this season.
The Tranmere Rovers striker has only truly plied his trade in the murky depths of the National League, but following Rovers’ promotion to the Football League, he’s finally had a chance to shine.
He’s a robust forward, a niggly player never far from a red card, but even closer to bagging a goal. He’s got a hint of the Danny Hylton about him, a player fans love to hate, but would also have in their own side in a shot.
He’s got 25 goals this season, Tranmere have 54 in total. He’s been the driving force behind their play-off push and a inspiration to other non-league strikers.
He’s recently been linked with a move to Ipswich and at 29-years-old, he’s going to face an important choice.
Tranmere’s future is uncertain. they’re four points outside the top three with a game in hand. They have six of the current top nine to play, including Lincoln, Bury and MK Dons. If they win some of those matches, they could find themselves in League One next season.
If that happens, does James Norwood stick with the club that have stuck by him, or look for the big move to cap off his career? At his age there’s going to be a certain desire to progress quickly, knowing a chance to play in the Championship is fading fast.
He’d have to decide which club presented the best opportunity, Tranmere or Ipswich?
If the Super White Army do not go up, then it’s surely a no-brainer.
He’s approaching the tail end of his career and after so long working the non-league scene, he owes it to himself to try his luck as high as he can.
There’s going to be a huge test of his loyalty this summer and the outcome would well disappoint Tranmere fans.
