Doncaster Rovers have appointed a successor to Grant McCann, with former West Brom manager Darren Moore unveiled on their official club site.

The 45-year-old takes over from McCann, who left earlier in the summer for Hull City. Moore made 76 appearances for Rovers during a two-year spell as a player and is swiftly back in management after his sacking at the Hawthorns at the tail end of last season.

“It feels really good to be back, having been here before as a player to be back as the manager is an honour for me," said Moore.

“I’m looking forward to getting to know everybody around the place, the role really appealed to me given the Club Doncaster model currently in place.”

He was in charge of West Brom for 48 matches with a win ratio of 47%, but failed to get them into the promotion spots and was relieved of his duties in early March.

Doncaster finished last season in sixth place, then found themselves eliminated from the play-offs after a terrific tussle with Charlton Athletic across two legs. They were the only side to win at the Valley in 2019, as well as being the last side to win there in 2018.

The appointment certainly seems to be popular amongst the Doncaster supporters, who have been clamouring for their former hero to be appointed ever since McCann left the club.
