It has been claimed that Aston Villa signed Jota from rivals Birmingham for just £2m plus midfielder Gary Gardner.

The Spaniard completed his move across the city last week, with Blues announcing the signing of Gardner from Villa on the same day, with both clubs stating that undisclosed fees had been agreed for the respective players.

However, reporter Duncan Castle has stated that the two deals were linked, with Villa paying just £2m for Blues' club-record signing as well as sending Gardner across the city.

Given the midfielder, who spent last season on loan at Blues, was not needed at Villa Park, it's fair to say that most fans see this as a great bit of business for the newly-promoted Premier League side, particularly when Jota cost £6m two years ago.
