Alvaro Gimenez has sent a message to Birmingham City fans after the win over Barnsley in the Championship last night.
The 28-year-old striker scored his first goal for the Blues as the team continued their encouraging start to the new season with a comfortable 2-0 win at St Andrew’s.
Lukas Jutkiewicz gave Birmingham a deserved lead in the 69th minute with a towering header, before Gimenez doubled their advantage with a sublime finish eight minutes later.
The Spanish centre-forward controlled Steve Seddon’s cross-field pass and calmly lobbed the ball over Barnsley goalkeeper Sami Radlinger.
It was the striker’s first goal for Birmingham since joining the club from Spanish side Almeria in the summer and the forward has taken to social media to express his delight at scoring on his home debut.
Unforgettable moment last night, first goal in my first game in ST Andrew’s, Blues you are unbelievable 🙌🏻⚽️💙#keepRightOn #BCFC #Dimoni

Gimenez was making his second appearance for the Blues since he arrived at St Andrew’s, after an outstanding season where he scored 20 goals in the Spanish second division last term.
Birmingham are eighth in the Championship table after taking seven points from their opening four league matches and face Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium in their next game at the weekend.
It was always going to be difficult for Birmingham to replace Che Adams, after the striker scored 22 goals for the Blues last term, but Gimenez could turn out to be a good replacement.
He took his goal very well last night and if he continues to score goals like that, he could become a real fans’ favourite at St Andrew’s.
I’m the forward would have been determined to get his Birmingham career off to a good start and scoring on his home debut would have been a very special moment for him.
Birmingham have made a very encouraging start to the new season and can now go into their game against Swansea at the weekend full of confidence.
