Aston Villa have decided to recall keeper Jed Steer from his loan spell with Charlton following the news that Orjan Nyland is out for the season.

The Norwegian stopper suffered an Achilles injury in training yesterday and it means he will be set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

With new signing Lovre Kalinic available, it means summer loan signing André Moreira and Mark Bunn are the only options for Dean Smith in goal for tomorrow's game against QPR and neither have convinced in the past.

Therefore, the manager has decided to bring back Steer, who has played 19 times for Charlton in the league this season and helped them to the play-offs.

Many were surprised to see the former Norwich man depart in the summer as he has proven himself to be reliable backup in the past.

And, that's certainly still the opinion of many Villa fans now, who think he could start against the R's.
