Charlton Athletic are looking for their first win in six Championship games as they take on relegation rivals Barnsley at The Valley this Saturday.

Ahead of the big game for Lee Bowyer's side, the Addicks boss faced the press on Thursday afternoon, discussing a selection of key topics.

With the transfer window slamming shut at 11pm this evening, the main talking point on the agenda was the possibility of further signings coming into the club, following the confirmation of Aiden McGeady's loan move from Sunderland.

“If you ask me or any other manager you want to strengthen your squad, especially coming into this part of the season. I want bodies coming in to help me and the team," Bowyer said.

“The more we get, the easier the job for me because then you have more people to choose from and we have a lot of games coming up in February, so we need to be able to rotate the squad.”

The Charlton manager also discussed the future of Lyle Taylor, who has been linked with a move away from the club during January.

“I hope he stays. He’s a big player for us. He’s played eight 90 minutes this season and we haven’t lost a game. If you’re asking me, on the football side of things, do I want Lyle to stay? Of course."

The 29-year-old's contract expires at the end of the season, and Bowyer is still keen on offering the forward another improved deal in order for him to remain at the club.

“I’m hopeful we can move forward, get this window out of the way, he’s still here and do something after the window because I want Lyle to still be here and be part of this club moving forward," he said.

Finally, Charlton's boss also had a few words to say about Saturday's opponents, in what could be described as a relegation six-pointer.

"I’ve watched them [Barnsley] in a few of their games and they are dangerous. I think they are in better shape than when we played them at their place. They’ve got some good players.”
