Wigan Athletic travel to league leaders West Bromwich Albion on Saturday looking to build on the 3-0 win they secured against Reading in midweek to close the gap on the teams above them.

Paul Cook’s side have managed to hit form at the right time over the last few weeks, with the Latics unbeaten in their last four Championship matches, and they followed up a 1-0 win at home to Millwall last weekend, with arguably their most accomplished performance of the season at Reading in midweek.

That win saw Wigan move level on points with 21st placed Middlesbrough and means that there are only two points separating Cook’s side from 18th place, as they look to ensure they survive in the Championship this campaign.

QUIZ: Are these Wigan Athletic facts true or false?

The one downside for Wigan to their win at Reading was the bad looking injury to defender Chey Dunkley, who had been brought on for the closing exchanges to help Cook’s side see out the game, but the 28-year-old was eventually stretchered off with a suspected broken leg after a nasty collision – and that means the Latics will be without him against West Brom.

Cook will be facing a decision over whether to bring Anthony Pilkington back into the side for the trip to West Brom, with the Wigan boss having left the winger out of the starting line-up for the trip to Reading as a precaution to prevent him suffering further injury issues, which have seen him only feature 13 times in the league so far.

Joe Gelhardt could miss out on the trip to the Hawthorns, with the forward having missed the trip to Reading on Wednesday having picked up a knock, and Cook has suggested that he could take part in some of Wigan’s FA Youth Cup quarter-final with Manchester United, which would make him unlikely to feature on Saturday.

The Latics also remain without Kieran Dowell, who is out with a an ankle injury that he picked up in training which will see him miss the next few weeks, and the Everton loanee will be continuing to try and get back to full fitness as soon as possible.

Wigan are also likely to still be without both Danny Fox and Antonee Robinson who both have groin injuries and will also be looking to make returns to fitness as soon as possible, as the Latics aim to continue to build on their recent run of form.
