Millwall are set to kick off their Sky Bet Championship season tomorrow as they travel across the River Thames to West London to take on Queens Park Rangers at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium.
Both sides will be heading into this season opener with good confidence after some good performances in pre-season and they will be hoping that their respective new signings will hit the ground running.
It promises to be a fascinating London derby between two sides who will have hopes of making the running for the play-off places this term after both finishing south of the top six in the previous campaign.
With regards to team news from the away side's perspective, Gary Rowett is set to have to do without the services of forward Mason Bennett for the best part of six weeks after the former Derby County man sustained an injury against Ipswich Town recently.
Whilst the Lions should be able to call upon Jed Wallace after their talisman scored in the club's final pre-season friendly.
Benik Afobe could also be in line for his first start for the club since re-joining them on loan from Stoke City this season, with the former Arsenal and MK Dons frontman bound to be keen to hit the back of the net in his first appearance after showing good form in the recent friendlies.
Meanwhile the club have also been boosted by the news that midfielder Ryan Leonard has signed a new long term contract with the club, with the 29-year-old putting pen to paper on fresh terms earlier on today.
Leonard moved permanently to the New Den back in 2019 from Sheffield United and has shown his versatility for the club over the years by filling in at right and centre back on the odd occasion when injuries have restricted the Lions.
