It's safe to say that it's not been the ideal second-half of this year's league campaign for Grant McCann and his Hull City side.

The Tigers had previously been challenging for a top-six finish in the Championship, but any chance of that has diminished in rather swift fashion.

Since the club opted to sell Jarrod Bowen and Kamil Grosicki, Hull have dropped down the Championship table at a quite alarming rate.

They're currently sat 18th in the second-tier standings, and are just three points adrift of the relegation zone, which certainly makes for concerning reading for the club's supporters, who wouldn't have imagined that they would be fighting to survive in the Championship after such an impressive start to this year's campaign.

But Grant McCann has had to try and cope without a number of key players that have been ruled out through injury in recent weeks, which has hampered their preparations heading into games this term.

We take a look at the latest news on the key Hull City players that are currently sidelined through injury.

Jon Toral

The 25-year-old has struggled for consistency in his appearances, and can't seem to see light at the end of the tunnel when it comes to his injury problems.

Toral made a long-awaited return to the first-team in late February, but missed Hull's recent 4-0 defeat to high-flying Leeds United.

Grant McCann revealed that the former Arsenal man is still a couple of weeks away from a timely return to the matchday squad.

Herbie Kane

Kane hasn't been seen in the matchday squad since their 5-1 defeat to promotion-chasing Brentford.

But the midfielder is still a couple of weeks away from a return to action, according to Hull City boss Grant McCann who issued an update on his fitness in a pre-match press conference ahead of their game against Stoke City.

Josh Bowler

Bowler is edging closer to a return to action for the Tigers, which will be encouraging to hear for both Grant McCann and the club's supporters.

McCann issued the update on Bowler's progress in a recent press conference ahead of their game against Stoke City this weekend.

"Josh Bowler is close to a return."

The midfielder hasn't featured since their defeat to Derby County in January, and will be keen to make up for lost time in Grant McCann's squad.

Jordy de Wijs

It's no coincidence that Hull's poor run of form has come up since de Wijs has been ruled out of action.

The defender hasn't been involved in the Hull first-team since their defeat to Barnsley, but had previously had an extended spell on the sidelines over the New Year, when he missed six games, in which Hull failed to win a single game in the time he was sidelined.

Grant McCann revealed in a press conference that de Wijs is a couple of weeks away from a return to action, and the Hull City supporters will be hoping that he can return to the matchday squad at the earliest of opportunities to help their fight against relegation this term.

Reece Burke

Burke is another defender that has been absent in recent weeks, as Hull continue to slide towards an almost unthinkable relegation into League One this season.

The central defender hasn't featured for the Tigers since their 2-1 defeat to Preston North End in February, and is still two weeks away from a return to the side.
