Charlton Athletic will be seeking to build upon their opening day goalless draw with Sheffield Wednesday this evening as they prepare to face near neighbours AFC Wimbledon in the Carabao Cup.

Nigel Adkins saw his side huff and puff but largely fail to really threaten the Owls during the weekend clash at the Valley and will be keen to see a lot more from his players in tonight's much anticipated London Derby on home turf.

The new signings that were made by the Addicks during the close season have slowly begun to bed in and many people will once again be expecting the Greenwich outfit to up and amongst the main contenders for promotion once more after missing out on a play-off spot last season.

Tonight's game poses a different type of threat for Adkins and co, with Mark Robinson bringing his bright young Wimbledon side to town and the Dons are sure to be full of confidence themselves after picking up an impressive 2-1 comeback victory at Doncaster Rovers thanks to goals from Ayoub Assal and Luke McCormick.

As for Charlton's team news for tonight's game, Adkins will still have to do without the services of midfielder Jake Forster-Caskey, who remains on the side-lines due to a ACL injury that he picked up the back end of last season.

Whilst the cup tie is also likely to come too soon for the likes of Ben Purrington, Alex Gilbey and Ronnie Schwartz, which means that the Charlton boss may well stick with many of the starting eleven which played on Saturday.

Wimbledon themselves are expected to make changes and it will be intriguing to see how both sides approach the game, with the fact that London Derby bragging rights are on the line also adding an extra edge to what should be an already feisty contest.
