Blackburn Rovers can further strengthen their hopes of a play-off place on Saturday, when they travel to Griffin Park to face promotion-chasing Brentford.

Back to back wins in their last two games against Hull City and Charlton Athletic have seen Tony Mowbray's side climb to eighth in the Championship table, just three points adrift of the top six spots.

That Rovers find themselves in that position, is all the more impressive when you consider the extent of the injury problems the Lancashire side have faced during that time, with several first-team players spending spells on the sidelines - while Bradley Dack, Lewis Holtby and Corry Evans are all longer-term absence for the Ewood Park club.

But how is that fitness situation looking for Blackburn going into that crucial game in the capital on Saturday?

Here, we round up all the latest news on those recent injury problems faced by Tony Mowbray's side.

Sam Gallagher

One player who has handed Rovers a boost with news on his injury situation, is Sam Gallagher.

The summer signing - who has four goals in 31 appearances this season - has missed the last two games with a hamstring injury.

That could change on Saturday however, with Mowbray confirming in his pre-match press conference ahead of that trip to Brentford that the 24-year-old will be assessed in training with a view to returning to action in that game at Griffin Park.

Joe Rankin-Costello

The situation with Rankin-Costello is very similar to the one surrounding Gallagher at the minute.

The 20-year-old attacker picked up a groin injury in the 1-0 defeat to Fulham that has kept him out of those last two matches played by Rovers.

Like Gallagher however, Mowbray has revealed that Rankin-Costello will also be assessed in training, with the view to bringing him back into the matchday squad against Brentford.

Can you name Blackburn's Player of the Year from each of the last 15 seasons?

Joe Rothwell

One attacking option Blackburn will be forced to do without at Brentford is Joe Rothwell.

The 25-year-old has not featured for Rovers since suffering a hamstring at the end of January, and it seems that will keep him out of action for some time yet.

No return date has yet to be set for the attacking midfielder, with Mowbray admitting that Rothwell is yet to resume training after that injury, meaning he is out of contention for this weekend's clash with the Bees.

Derrick Williams

Like Rothwell, defender Derrick Williams is another who will be absent from the matchday squad at Griffin Park.

The Irishman, who has largely been consigned to the bench following the emergence of Darragh Lenihan and Tosin Adarabioyo as the club's first-choice centre back pairing at the end of last year, was absent from the matchday 18 for that win at Charlton last weekend due to a calf injury.

With Mowbray naming Williams as one who has not featured in training in the build-up to this weekend's trip to London, that looks likely to be the case again at Brentford.

Corry Evans

One longer-term absentee that Mowbray did provide an update on in his press conference ahead of that trip to Brentford, is Corry Evans.

The midfielder has not featured for the club since fracturing his skull and shattering his eye socket when he was caught in the face by a stray high boot in his side's 1-1 draw with Preston in January, in what was his 200th appearance for the club.

Discussing the Northern Ireland international, Mowbray revealed that Evans has returned to the club's Brockhall training ground, but has yet to resume training, the timing of which the Blackburn manager reiterated will be decided by Evans himself, with Mowbray describing the 29-year-old's current situation as an "emotional" one.
